One of the most important parts of Czech history is the period of governance of Charles IV who was Bohemian king and the emperor of The Holy Roman Empire. During this time, many important art pieces, structures and institutions representing culture, architecture, art and education were created. Visitors to Prague are familiar with Charles Bridge, students study at the Charles University and tourists admire the gothic castle Karlštejn. This castle is the place where the Imperial Crown of The Holy Roman Empire is deposited along with a replica of the Crown of Saint Wenceslas. Charles IV was crowned in Rome in 1355.
A rare project of making a replica of the Imperial Crown was organised during 2008 and 2009, creating the last copy of this famous jewel that Austria allowed to be manufactured and displayed. Specialist craftsmen have been chosen to enable the highest quality replica of the original jewel to be reproduced. Our company has been tasked to manufacture realistic and accurate glass replicas of the original precious stones found on the Imperial Crown. Accuracy is essential as each coloured stone has its very own place and meaning. In order to meet strict shape, size, colour requirements all stones were made by hand, shaped in fire from special glass rods.
Czech Television has created a documentary film about the Imperial Crown and the making of its replica.
